The seminar will be interpreted into Czech.
Since the beginning the film has been closely related to technology. Only thanks to technology transmitting pictures on celluloid to the silver screen the audience can enjoy the film experience. Two centuries have passed since the beginning of cinematography, and consequently it is understandable that the development of technologies has also influenced the film. The development of digital projectors and the setting of technical standards for digital screening in cinemas have launched the digitisation of cinemas in the past few years. Technological progress is moving ahead at such a rapid pace that in a couple of years the films previously made for a broad audience will be available only in a digital form. This is why a number of European countries face the necessity to digitise a huge amount of films that make the national film heritage.
This is also why the European Commission issued the Recommendation on the digitisation and online accessibility of cultural material and digital preservation in August 2006 in which it, among others, called on the EU member states to set goals in the digitisation of archive material and the creation of national strategies for the preservation of digital material and access to it.
Representatives of state and film institutions and experts from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia will speak about the process of film heritage digitisation in the Czech Republic as well as in other neighbouring countries, the countries´ approach to it, the way of selecting films and solving the problems with funding. Come and learn about the digital era of distribution and the end of celluloid as the medium for distribution of films.
