Eye Above Prague
czech republic director: Olga Špátová 2010 / 78 min. / Czech version with English subitltes cast: Jan Kaplický, Eliška Kaplicky, Václav Havel, Norman Foster, Pavel Bém |
The Eye Above Prague is a personal and political biography of the project of the Prague National Liberary, a.k.a. the Octopus, as well as the biography of the later life of its author, Jan Kaplicky. A note in his 1998 diary says, “To win the competition and find one love.” This quotation, read by his wife Eliska Kaplicky, opens the documentary. It seems that the world-known Czech architect wrote it as a “script” not only of his last decade, but also of this film, which follows the rather dramatic civil story of creative imagination and a liaison between a man and a woman.
