No One's Son
Croatia, Slovenia director: Arsen Anton Ostojić 2008 / 100 min. / Croatian version with English subtitles cast: Alen Liverić, Mustafa Nadarević, Biserka Ipša, Goran Grgič, Zdenko Jelčić |
Before the war Ivan was in a rock band. Now he is 36, and has lost both his legs in the war. He must come to terms with a marriage that is on the rocks, and also face the fact that he can’t see his son. He has no future, like many of his comrades who would often rather take their own lives than waste it in an institution. Ivan’s father Izidor, a famous political prisoner in the former Yugoslavia, is eager to get into the Croatian Parliament. In the middle of his campaign, a Serbian refugee named Simo appears and begins to blackmail Isidor, and unexpected facts start bubbling to the surface... the topic is timeless: wounded war veterans and the inability of anyone to help them, their isolation, and their families condemned to extinction through the criminal absurdities of war...
